Appropriately, on Halloween. The party that had only recently become a local tradition was attended by a growing number of professional “makers” as well as the usual group of friends. The conversation shifted from party talk to shop talk. It was Christina Kortum who finally put it into words: “You know, this is really great. We should do this more often; just get together and talk shop.” In that moment, the seed of what was to become Dark Arbor Lodge was sown. He has always been fascinated with characters from comics and classic B-monster movies. His talent was evident at an early age and he began doing artwork commercially at age twelve. By his twenties he was the director of Product Development at Dark Horse comics, and was launching the collectibles divisions for Marvel and DC Comics as well. His company Bowen Designs Incorporated was the first company of its kind to focus on characters from comics and science fiction franchises. His unique subjects range from Mickey Mouse to Superman; Spider-Man to Predator and Aliens…. His statue of Superman can be seen in every episode of the TV show Seinfeld. He has worked and collaborated with many luminaries in the field of comic books, including: Frank Frazetta, Mike Mignola, Frank Miller, Matt Wagner, Neil Gaiman, and many others. He has deep convictions about both construction integrity and cohesive design, and integrates masterful craft techniques with quality materials in his pursuit of heirloom quality pieces. Within any project, every part is handmade for its specific application within the overall design (other than the obvious fasteners, fittings, and various electrical components). Kinsey's work has been stylistically consistent since the mid 1990s, inspiration primarily deriving from a vintage-industrial motif. Currently, this falls within the aesthetics coined Steampunk or Dieselpunk. Kinsey prefers the moniker Vintage Industrial. It is the physical puppet that draws you in.” — Kevin Gorby Puppet fabricator, animatronics specialist, prop builder, and über-dad, Gorby offers a broad skillset, and has been commissioned by companies worldwide for creatures and robotic builds alike. A recent example of Gorby’s work was seen for a time on the streets of London, featuring a coughing bear named Toxic Toby. Toby was built by Gorby to be featured in a live exposé piece by advertising agency McCann London. Gorby got his start in the business after building a puppet for his daughter, Luna, and then finding he had a knack for it. He’s since named his brand after his daughter - Luna’s Puppets.
